The service is better than any other resort or cruise I've been to. Even if something is wrong (our water was not hot enough at first), it gets fixed right away. The resort is not huge but plenty of activities, places to relax, and it seems like every little detail has been well thought out. Paradisus La Esmeralda was BY FAR the best resort I've ever stayed at. I have stayed at many all inclusive resorts in Riviera Maya, Puerto Plata (Dominican Republic), Aruba and Costa Rica. I was SO impressed, I just had to write a review. We just returned from a week-long vacation at Paradisus La Esmeralda (family side of the resort). The fact it was all inclusive was the cherry on top. All in all this was one of the better experiences I have had at a property. If you like dancing, you will like the several dance clubs they have as well. If you like the beach you will love the location. We happen to be here during the NBA Finals and were able to watch all the games at several bars. If you are in your room between 8am- 11pm chances are you are missing out on some great activities. It seems that if you really want to enjoy everything this place has to offer you should head out of your room by 8am. This was a welcomed wake up call as the sound wasn't over bearing to those of us in our rooms but rather put you in the mood to get out and get the day started. Every morning there was an exercise class at the big pool with some high energy music over the loud speakers. Once the guy was there the whole process impressively took less than 15 minutes! Our room was right off of the swimming lagoon that wrapped around the property and led to the huge pool in the middle of the adult side. The guy took all of the items out, sanitized and cleaned it out "although nothing was visibly messy" then fully stocked it with new items and replaced the small door with a new one. It was discovered that someone had unplugged the mini fridge and that caused the slight smell. We notified our concierge and someone was there within 10 min. I will mention that when we attempted to open our mini bar there was a slight problem opening the door and once opened there seem to be some items missing and a funny smell. The mini bar is stocked daily and it felt good to grab and go without worrying about being racking up extra mini bar charges. The layout and activities are placed well as so you're able to enjoy regardless of if you are on a family vacation or adult getaway. There is a family side and an adult side with all of the food places in the middle. The variety of the food choices was a great surprise especially for an all inclusive. She then gave us a direct number to contact her during our stay as to address any of our needs. The room was incredible and the restaurants were excellent.

Took about 15 - 20 min but was worth the wait as you want to make sure that you know how to schedule activities and where you need to make reservations at to eat. After a few glasses of sangria while checking in she explained the entire layout and activities. I was surprised to see that she stayed with us all the way through check in to make sure everything went smoothly. After asking our names one person took our luggage and another led us to the front desk for check in. Upon first arrival we were greeted right as we exited our airport transportation. Food was truly excellent and the kids - too young to realize or care - had a fantastic time. Unfortunate because the resort was great otherwise. We ended up giving up on him and resorted to fleeing him, hoping not to run into him. Nice! Our concierge came to meet us every day asking for anything we'd like for the day ahead and we would end up listing the things that we asked the day before that he failed to see through, hoping for a turnaround. Our group, nicely dressed in elegant resort attire for the occasion headed over to the buffet since all other restaurants were fully booked. The things he messed up and the ways he disappointed us are too numerous to list, but telling our family of four we had a reservation for 6:30PM at a nice restaurant only to be told by the maître d' it was booked for 9PM is representative of it all (we have two toddlers). The concierge that was assigned to our family was a complete and utter disaster, to put it nicely. DO take it in order to gain access to very nice and exclusive areas of the resort (heated pool, private beach section, etc.) DO NOT take it thinking you'll receive service that is in line with the associated fee.
